Our History

Gavin passed his final exams in 1990, then pursued his "military training" via the Receiver of Revenue in Durban. During his most informative years at SARS, and wanting to start his own business, "he kept an eye open" for prospective clients. He eventually found one, then two, then three and so forth. At the end of his two years at SARS he resigned and accepted a fulltime job with a company selling timeshare as their Accountant. During this period he continued to source clients in need and was happy to oblige... However, not finding his "career move" to full time employment very challenging he got a job as the Financial Accountant for the Wakefields Group of Estate Agents based throughout Kwa-Zulu Natal. With his dream of running his own practice not yet fulfilled, he continued to do as much work in his spare time as possible. This endeavor built up a tidy some of clients and when it reached approximately 25 clients, he resigned from Wakefields to pursue his dream. He first worked from a converted garage from his home and met with client in his living room.

His services proved to be very good and he charged very competitive fees. In two years he and his wife at the time built the business up to over 100 clients and employed 5 staff members. He eventually bought a new home, seperate to the house from which the Accounting firm was run - all this time being known as Action Accountants.

The business continued to grow from strength to strength. Client numbers grew and so did the number of staff, but the premises situated in a residential area were no longer ideal for a bustling Accounting firm, so he and his team moved the business to its current location at 139 Old Main Road in Pinetown.

Today they have over 1000 clients and employ two full time qualified Accountants, a full time bookkeeper, three trainee accountants, 2 assistants, a receptionist, a collections lady, a marketer and a tea lady.

Both the qualified accountants (Gavin and Jade) are studying law and the three trainees (Mdu, Nomfundo and John) are all studying degrees to further their education. And if all goes well Gavin will be awarded his Masters Degree in Taxation in 2010.

Gavin started with humble beginnings in the 80's and today in the new Millennium he continues to market, promote and further his studies to continue provided excellent service and very affordable prices.
