Gavin Bacon is a Durban-based Professional Accountant. He started Pinetown Accounting and Tax Consulting in 1992 and serves the Durban community as a Financial accountant. He is constantly updating his knowledge of the law involving accounting, tax, business and general. He is a registered Professional Accountant with a degree in taxation. He is currently busy with his Masters degree in Taxation and he has accumulated 20 years experience starting his career in 1988 and completing his practical training in 1991. In 1992 and 1993 he gained a wealth of experience working for the South African Revenue Services, working as a VAT auditor.

Qualifying as a professional accountant involves several years' training, comprising a mixture of on-the-job experience and the passing of formal professional examinations. A professional accountant can perform a wider range of functions that will benefit your business, issue reports in terms of various acts & regulations and are recognised as a Commisioner of Oaths. The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) describes a professional accountant as someone that meets the standards of a professional. These are defined as:
